The beer and Chevy. What's more Czech than that combination? This witty and concise illustration by Asia Damova from Bulgaria was created as part of a Czech art competition. We chose it for you because of its tremendous wit, which captures us Czechs in a non-violent way. The Czech Republic is known for beer all over the world, we are famous for the quantity of beer we drink, but also for the quality and tradition of its brewing. Jaroslav Hašek's The Good Soldier Švejk is considered a typical example of Czech character - we are full of life and carefree, but also partly resigned. We are intelligent, even though it may not be obvious at first glance, we can laugh at ourselves, we have an unmistakable sense of humour and we are friendly. Each of us is a bit of a Chevy, whether he likes it or not.
