White, red, blue. The Czech tricolour is one of the national symbols, although this has not always been the case. For example, during socialism it was not among the symbols, so people pinned it on as a sign of protest against the regime in 1968 or 1989. And what does it symbolise? The white colour represents purity, the red the blood shed by patriots for the freedom of their homeland and the blue the cloudless sky. Alternatively, white is based on the lion emblem, red on the colour of the coat of arms and blue represents Slovakia, Moravia and Subcarpathian Russia. Whether you prefer the folk poetic instruction or the practical real meaning, it is important to observe the order of the colours.
