T-shirt Milada - men

27 June is known in the Czech Republic as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Communist Regime. Why? It was on this day in 1950 that Milada Horáková was executed - a lawyer, democratic politician, feminist and fighter for women's rights, wife, mother and also the only woman executed during the political trials in the 1950s. During the mock trial, this heroine was accused of espionage, preparation of an anti-state coup and terrorist actions. Twelve other people were convicted along with Horáková, and a total of four death sentences were passed. Horáková's conviction caused an uproar around the world. Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and Jean-Paul Sartre, among other well-known personalities, sent letters to President Gottwald asking for clemency. But to no avail. Horáková herself did not ask for clemency, nor did she surrender during her interrogation, and despite the pre-determined scenario of the trial, she was able to resist at times and defend herself and her democratic ideals. After all, Horáková defended the democratic principles of T. G. Masaryk all her life. While still studying law, she joined the Women's National Council, then the Czechoslovak National Socialist Party and the Czechoslovak Red Cross. During the Second World War, she was active in the resistance and was cruelly interrogated and subsequently imprisoned by the Gestapo, including in Terezín. After the war, she became an MP and spoke out against pro-Eastern foreign policy as well as the expanding communist power. Despite the possibility of going abroad, Milada Horáková remained in her homeland and helped people with emigration, publicly spoke out against the Communist government and was in contact with exiled politicians. To the very end, she remained a strong woman loyal to her country, as her alleged last words prove: "I'm falling, I'm falling... I lost this fight, I'm leaving with honour. I love this country, I love this people... Build their prosperity. I leave without hatred for you... I wish you, I wish you..." You can honour the memory of not only Milada Horáková by wearing her portrait on your T-shirt, "with your head held high".
