Five Olympic medals, 18 world records and six years without a single defeat in the 10,000 metres - these are just the most significant sporting achievements of Emil Zátopek. In training he toiled like no one else, but in life he managed to keep his perspective and sense of humour. The book is based on an extremely careful study of Czech and foreign sources (including archives of the security forces) and numerous interviews with Zátopek's friends, colleagues, rivals and family members, especially Emil's wife, Olympic champion Dana Zátopková.
