The Prague metro has its own unique character and not only the oldest stations have their artistic value. One of the first metro stations to open was I. P. Pavlova on line C. It has been in operation since the very beginning - since the opening ceremony on 9 May 1974. The year of opening is also the year of the photo for our theme. Not only all fans of the metro or public transport, but also of modern architecture, can thus see the unique design of the lobby by architect Otakar Madera on the poster.
I. P. Pavlova used to be the busiest station of the Prague metro, but in the past few years, Karlovo náměstí has taken over the top spot. Ípák or Slinták, as the station is also called, is located on the border of Nové Město and Vinohrady, it is connected to other types of public transport, there are escalators and an elevator, so it is also wheelchair accessible. This is one of the reasons why it used to be and still is so popular. The picture of the lobby for our T-shirt makes the marble panelling, modern chandeliers and short escalators stand out. The specific decoration of the station is the remains of a relief of stone lions, which were part of the original fortifications of Prague, and which were discovered and restored during the construction of the metro.
